Our company, KOLOS AGRO LTD. has been established in 1989 by 51 % Danish and 49 % Hungarian founders, for the primary purpose of goose production. The Ltd. has among its emplovees the representatives of all the phases of goose production, including researchers, goose breeders, production plants, poultry processing companies as well as foreign traders.
It has been our objective to improve all the economic values of the goose. The breeding work aimed at higher meat yield, slaughtering features, meat quality is performed by us with the help of computer tomograph at the Animal Breeding Faculty of Pannon University of Agriculural Sciences in Kaposv r. The necessary software had been developed by the researchers, mathematicians of the university under the guidance of Academician Dr. P‚ter Horn, vice-chancellor of the university. KOLOS AGRO Ltd. has purchased the goose software and we are now the exclusive owners and users of that software.
We intend to utilise the favorable effects of hybridisation in goose breeding also, and so we are working on the development of male and female lines.Our breeding objectives aimed at improving genetic characteristics can be summed up as follows:
Summing up, our objective is to change genetically the body composition of meat geese. For that purpose we have the most up to date, highest technology internationally available , namely the above mentioned X ray computer tomograph (RCT). Here a solution was found, the first internationally, when RCT has been put to use in animal improvement so that human diagnostics studies have also been made possible.
The use of RCT has made it possible that the animals intended for breeding should be selected based on their own performance.With the help of the instrument cross section exposures are made in points considered as best. Those pictures enable us to read very exactly the composition of the body textures of the goose, that is the muscle, bone, fat and water contents. This the body composition can be determined in vivo without damaging the bird. The key components of the body are among the inheritable features. The selection made based on own performance increases the safety if the selection of the birds most suited to breeding, and significantly accelerates breeding work.
The pictures received by the RCT method are evaluated with the help of computer. To illustrate the safety in selecting the most appropriate birds, it is enough to mention, that we evaluate, analyse approx. 1000 data, ratios for each gander. Of that great number of data the computer prepares in a matter of seconds the ranking of the geese in accordance with the given features and the best ones on the list can then be used as breeders.
The KOLOS geese have excellent genetic background and as a result of the breeding work its production indicators are of international standard. The two geese type we sell bring the following yields when bred under optimum farming conditions ( genetic abilities are some 15 % higher):
This type of goose has white feathers, rapid growth rate, good feed utilisation capacity, is of excellent meat form, has favorable meat : bones ratio and is a low fat goose for broiler. It has large body mass, easy to cut, easy to remove the feather and produces plenty og feather with high down content goose for roast. It has high resistsance , its health is stable, and is eary to grow. Its parameters are as follows:
